Successful Server Rooms

Having worked within computing for the last decade, I’ve witnessed the incredible growth of technology that has turned server rooms from something that only the largest corporations needed to think about, into something that even the smallest business are now including within their premises. These days I would say that in terms of health, safety, efficiency and effectiveness, it’s essential to use professional services such as http://www.commsroomservices.co.uk/ to design and build your server room, even if you only have two or three servers.  Get the job done right, better than doing it twice.  However, it always pays to know as much as possible about any element of your business so you always feel in control, so if you’re about to install a new server room then make sure the design adheres to these rules of successful server rooms.

1. Always leave room for growth

As with any aspect of business, it’s always advisable to think about the future and, when it comes to server rooms, you should expect to need more servers as your business grows. I would recommend that you make provision for any contraction or expansion of servers whether that be by having a larger data centre room or having a temporary wall that can be moved in order to increase the internal volume of the room.

2. Raise the floor

If you haven’t got much space for your server room then a raised floor can be the ideal solution as you can store all your cables beneath your floor where it can be accessed easily but kept completely out of the way. If a raised floor isn’t an option in the space you have then look at ways to store your cables in the ceiling.  Stray cables can be a real nuisance for maintenance teams or cleaners.  They also vastly increases the chances of damaged items.

4. Pay more for air con

Your server room will need air conditioning to keep your equipment at the right temperature and stop it from overheating. In terms of economy, in my opinion it’s always better to go for the most advanced equipment you can find, even if it’s more expensive. This is because it will be more efficient and therefore cheaper to run than less effective air con and as your servers increase you won’t find yourself with extortionate power bills at the end of each quarter.  Keeping the temperature at the correct level whilst the servers are running can be incredibly expensive so getting the most efficient cooling system can potentially save you vast sums of money.

5. Prepare for an Emergency

There are several things to consider that will help make your server room safer in an emergency so make sure your server room is set up for all types of hazard. For example fire retardant walls, generators and emergency lighting can all be included. It’s also a good idea to keep all your servers raised one or two feet of the floor as it makes them easier to access and also lessens the risk of them being destroyed in the event of a flood.  If you ensure that your server room is well venitlated or with an efficient coolling system then the risk of fire is greatly reduced, but always keep in mind that accidents happen and a room with that much elexctronics in it is a higher risk normal.

Dell (Power-edge T110 Server)

Dell’s best gift to SMB is surely the new power edge T110 server. When it comes to performance nothing can really beat this. You can get this in a reasonable price and the performance will surely make you happy. Dell came up with power edge series few years back.

There were some troubles in the earlier models. In case of Power edge T110 Dell has worked on the downsides and it is nearly perfect. You cannot find lack of any important features in it. Built in security is there and you need not worry about virtualization compatibility and others. In the following article we will be discussing about the power edge T110 server. It will surely be helpful for you.

This is actually a tower server. The weight of this is 28 pounds and it has SATA HDD installed in it. Along with that there is 4GB 133 MHz UDIMM memory and also 1 TB   HDD included in this. You can opt for the Intel core processors with it. Some people opt for Xeon. If you think that Intel core i3-2100 will work better for you then you can also install that.

There is also RAID controller. You can opt for virtualization technology to consolidate the physical server into virtual machines. The DVD drive and LED control panels are there. You can find information regarding the system’s health from the control panel.

The performance of Power edge T110 server is really good. It does not make sound and remains cool. This is cost effective and you can get plenty of management features in it. However you need to add memory to improve the performance. If you are looking for SMB server then Dell Power edge T110 is surely the best option for you.
